Gohar and Farag Triumph at the Grasshopper Cup 2025 in Zurich

The Egyptian squash stars Nouran Gohar (WRL 1) and Ali Farag (WRL 2) have won the prestigious Grasshopper Cup for the first time. The tournament, held in Zurich’s main train station, awarded each champion a prize of 123,000 USD.

Ali Farag Celebrates His First Victory in Zurich

The four-time world champion Ali Farag defeated Peruvian world No. 3 Diego Elias in a high-level final, winning 3:1 (13-11, 12-14, 11-4, 11-5) in 52 minutes. Farag had previously reached the GC Cup final in 2017, but was defeated by Greg Gaultier. This year, he exacted his revenge and claimed the 46th title of his career.

"I love the city, I love the tournament and the incredible atmosphere. This title was missing for me — now I am simply proud and happy"

On the women’s side, Nouran Gohar also emerged victorious in her first participation in the Grasshopper Cup. She defeated Sivasangari Subramaniam (MAS, WRL 11) in straight sets, 3:0 (11-7, 14-12, 11-9) in 43 minutes. The Grasshopper Cup — Squash in the Heart of Zurich

Since 2012, Steve Buchli has organized the Grasshopper Cup, which was first held in 1979. Under his leadership, it has grown into the most important squash tournament on the European mainland. Its spectacular stage inside Zurich’s main train station is often referred to in the media as the “glass UFO.”
