Former World Champion and current World No. 3 Diego Elias (PER) tops the men’s draw. The Peruvian returns to Zurich for the third time and is eager to finally claim the title after losing last year’s final to Ali Farag. Elias picked up a knee injury at the start of the season and is working his way back to top form – the Grasshopper Cup could be the perfect moment for his comeback.
No. 2 seed Karim Gawad (EGY), the 2023 Grasshopper Cup champion, has been in outstanding form this season, climbing back to World No. 3 for the first time in six years. He’s been drawn in the same quarter as 2019 champion Mohamed ElShorbagy – a potential quarter-final clash between two greats of the game that would thrill the Zurich crowd.
Europe’s leading players, Victor Crouin (FRA, No. 3 seed) and Joel Makin (WAL, No. 4 seed), are looking to make home continent advantage count. Crouin has taken a major step forward this season, recently claiming his biggest title at the Texas Open Gold event – becoming only the third Frenchman ever to reach the world’s top five. Makin has been battling a knee injury this season but remains one of the fittest and toughest opponents on tour.
Home fans have plenty to cheer about with four Swiss players in the draw. Top-ranked Swiss player Dimitri Steinmann (WR #18) is seeded [9/16] and faces Spain’s Iker Pajares in round one. Nicolas Mueller, the most successful Swiss squash player in history, takes on France’s Baptiste Masotti. Wildcards Yannick Wilhelmi and David Bernet complete the Swiss contingent.

World No. 3 Amina Orfi (EGY) heads the women’s draw. The record-breaking World Junior Champion is a dominant force in the women’s game right now. She has won all three Gold events she’s entered this season. At last month’s Windy City Open, she came agonisingly close to her first major title, leading Nour ElSherbini 2-0 in the final before falling short. Orfi will be hungry for redemption in Zurich.
No. 2 seed Satomi Watanabe (JPN) recently ended a 13-month title drought at the Steel City Open and is in strong form. In her quarter, she could face Jasmine Hutton (ENG, No. 8 seed) – whom she beat in Pittsburgh after coming back from 1-2 down.
Sivasangari Subramaniam (MAS, No. 3 seed) is the only other player in the draw besides Orfi to have won a Gold event – her incredible run at the 2024 London Classic remains the stuff of legend. She lost last year’s Zurich final to Nouran Gohar and will be determined to go one step further this time.
On the women’s side, Cindy Merlo and Ambre Allinckx carry Swiss hopes. Merlo faces Egypt’s Sana Ibrahim in round one, while Allinckx takes on Mariam Metwally (EGY). Both matches promise exciting moments in front of the home crowd.
